Sciatica is a common symptom that affects the sciatic nerve. The sciatic nerve is longest spinal nerve in the body. It runs from the lower back, through the pelvis, down into each leg, and into the feet.

Sciatic-type pain can begin gradually, becoming more intense over time. Symptoms can vary from a mild ache to sharp, shooting, burning and/or excruciating discomfort. For some people, pain can be severe and debilitating, for others, symptoms may be infrequent and irritating but have the potential to worsen over time.

How Chiropractic helps Sciatica

Chiropractic treatment helps by restoring and improving spinal joint function which in turn helps to decrease pain and inflammation. Chiropractic treatment involves many different types of techniques which may include spinal adjustments, stretches, rehabilitative exercises, postural advice and the use of ice/heat therapy. In many cases, this will help to eventually relieve the pain caused by the irritated nerve.

Because we look at many structures in this region of the body during the assessment, Chiropractic can often facilitate wider improvements speeding up the process of acute pain relief and restoring normal function.
