What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a natural, drug-free, non-surgical approach to getting you back to health and specialises in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disorders affecting the musculoskeletal system, particularly involving the spine and its effect on the nervous system and our health in general.
When people think of Chiropractic, many imagine that it is often limited to the treatment of back and neck disorders, but as primary healthcare providers Chiropractors are qualified to treat a vast range of conditions.

The most common Chiropractic technique performed is known as a “spinal manipulation,” or “chiropractic adjustment.” The purpose of the manipulation/ adjustment is to restore joint mobility. In addition, each patient will undergo some muscle release techniques during each session which ultimately quickens the healing process.

Although tissue injury can be caused by a single traumatic event, such as improper lifting of a heavy object, most commonly an injury will occur through repetitive stresses, such as sitting in an awkward position with poor posture for an extended period of time. In either case, injured tissues undergo physical and chemical changes that can cause inflammation, pain, and diminished function for the sufferer.

Therefore, in addition to potential physical stressors to the body, close attention is also placed on the lifestyle of the patient because chemical stress,(what we eat and drink), and emotional stress will both also contribute to an individual feeling pain and dysfunction.

Chiropractic manipulation, or adjustment of the affected joint and tissues will help restore mobility, which in turn reduces pain and muscle tightness and therefore allows tissues to heal.

What Happens on Your First Visit?

With over a decade of expertise, our philosophy focusses on identifying the source of the problem, of which there may be many and use that as a starting point to your road to recovery.

On your first visit, you will be asked a variety of questions regarding your medical history, work posture and sleeping environment as well as your hobbies.
We then perform the relevant examination tests as well as using posture software to establish underlying areas of dysfunction.

On your second visit, we will go through your results and explain your diagnosis as well as recommending the treatment plan that is suited to your needs. If you wish to start your journey to better health, you will receive your first treatment on this visit.

On occasion, we may feel the need for further investigations such as X-rays, MRI or relevant blood tests. This is normally done at this visit.

How long will it take?

In most cases, you will need a course of treatments to solve the problem. It is important to remember that we may be asymptomatic for a long while before we feel any pain. As a result, the healing process can take time to occur.
The chiropractor will explain what the problem is and come up with a tailored care plan which best suits your needs. Your plan of care is based upon your age, condition, lifestyle, and unique presenting problem(s).

Is Chiropractic Safe?

Believe it or not, this question is frequently asked by patients who are new to Chiropractic.
When compared with traditional approaches Chiropractic care is remarkably safe. Regular Chiropractic adjustments are safer and longer lasting than anti-inflammatories, painkillers, muscle relaxants, and back surgery.

There are many research studies that have documented the safety and effectiveness of chiropractic adjustments. Indeed, millions of chiropractic adjustments are safely delivered to patients all over the world every day.

Is it suitable for me?

While most patients are suitable for chiropractic care, there are, on occasions, when a problem may be beyond the remit of a chiropractor. In this situation, we will do our utmost to find the most suitable type of care that you need.

Things to Remember about Chiropractic

Chiropractic is not an instant magic cure…if only it was!!

As we get older, our lifestyle choices will commonly initiate postural changes, joint misalignments and increased muscle tension leading to pain.
The job of the chiropractor is to diagnosis the source of the problem and provide a plan that will relieve symptoms and prevent re-occurrence in a controlled manner.
Ultimately each of us who undergoes Chiropractic treatment needs to make minor but nevertheless important lifestyle changes to pro-actively enhance our daily lives.
